GIS SITE SELECTION

SITE SELECTION

A powerful development tool accomplished using GIS is site suitability modeling.

By combining the various analytic tools and rich data, GIS software can provide insight into a potential site and its context.

The first sample is the composite overlay from several data layers to determine the best location for a timeshare development project on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Variables like distance from airport, ocean views, and parcel size were used to determine the optimal and sub-optimal areas for construction.

The second sample is a site in China where site suitability was used to determine best use programming. By analyzing suitable conditions such as slope, aspect, and buildable area, among others, the best-programmed use of each area was made clear.
